Push Redshift to full capacity: Tendril senior 3D artist Yeseong Kim takes you from standard materials, scattering and utility/volume shaders through tool-independent lighting theory to three finished project videos — Orbix (material master), Luminix (lighting master) and Project X (full pipeline). Across 38 chapters / 17 hours 59 minutes you plan in Notion, build in Cinema 4D, optimize takes and render layers, and composite in After Effects / Fusion — ending with consistently strong lookdev instead of one lucky render.
🎯 What you’ll learn
- Master Redshift standard materials, new scattering controls and lesser-known features worth knowing
- Use node-based utility shaders and volume modeling and shading in real scenes
- Diagnose and fix shading problems by understanding what each material function does, not by copying numbers
- Apply lighting theory beyond tools: light types, purpose-driven setups and storytelling with light
- Set up scene-specific lighting across varied scenarios and optimize rendering with takes and render layers
- Produce three project videos end to end: planning, design, modeling, animation, lighting, rendering and post
- Composite RAW renders into finished video in After Effects / Fusion
- Plan and manage personal projects (Notion, resource linking, pre-production) for consistent portfolio output
✅ Requirements
- Skills: Solid Cinema 4D basics and first Redshift experience; this is an Advanced–Pro class, ideally after an introductory Redshift course
- Tools: Cinema 4D 2023.2 or later, Redshift 3.5.17 or later, After Effects v23.2 or later; optional: DaVinci Resolve / Fusion 18, Houdini 19.5, ZBrush, Substance Painter
- Hardware: Minimum 16GB RAM, dedicated NVIDIA GPU recommended for Redshift rendering
📝 Description
This is the advanced follow-up to Yeseong Kim’s introductory Redshift class: where the first course covered general shading and lighting, this one goes deep into upgraded materials and light behavior — standard-material scattering, node-based utilities, volumes — and always applied to real video scenes rather than isolated shader balls. Problems are solved live as they appeared in the instructor’s own portfolio work, so you build transferable problem-solving instead of version-locked recipes.
Lighting gets equal weight to shading. You study theory that survives tool changes — what each light type is for, how light directs mood and story — then execute it in Redshift across three different project scenarios, so your results stay consistent instead of working in exactly one setup. Rendering is treated as engineering: C4D takes, render layers and Redshift optimization that stabilize technically complex scenes before a single RAW frame reaches compositing.
The spine of the class is project management. From Notion planning and pre-production through 11 provided scene files, 30+ ready-to-use assets (textures, character and object models, VDB files) and the instructor’s own workflow, you run the same loop three times — Orbix for materials, Luminix for lighting, Project X for the entire pipeline to final video file — and come out with portfolio pieces plus a repeatable system for producing them. Bonus chapters extend the pipeline with Fusion, RizomUV/UDIM unwrapping, Substance Painter and skin shaders in Houdini.

🧑🎓 Who this course is for
- 3D artists who already know Redshift basics and want genuinely advanced shading and lighting problem-solving
- Motion graphic designers who need efficient, high-quality practical workflows instead of single-setup tricks
- Job seekers building a competitive lookdev portfolio with finished video pieces, not shader tests
🧑🏫 About the Author
Yeseong Kim (김예성) is a Senior 3D Artist at Tendril Studio, hired there off a self-driven personal portfolio. His brand work spans design, look development and lighting for Microsoft (Windows 365 Cloud PC), Riot (LoL Worlds 2022), ESPN (CFP), Hublot (World Cup 2022, MP-13) and Cybin x Kernel. He teaches the planning-to-delivery workflow he uses to produce consistently strong commercial 3D.
🏁 Final Result
- Three finished portfolio videos — Orbix, Luminix and Project X — from planned scenes through optimized Redshift renders to composited finals
- Repeatable lookdev system: Notion planning, material/lighting diagnosis habits and a render-to-composite pipeline for steady output
