π Description
This course, “Hard-Surface Essentials Vol. 3: Radio & Complex Assemblies,” is the next step in mastering intricate game assets. We’re focusing on building multi-part game assets, which means managing separate components and making sure they all fit together perfectly. You’ll learn a cool hybrid workflow using Photoshop and Substance Painter to create professional masks and decals that really make your models pop.
While this is Volume 3, you don’t absolutely need to have finished the previous ones, but it’s recommended for a smoother ride, especially with complex assemblies. This course stands on its own if you’re keen on learning custom decal workflows.
We’ll be using Maya for modeling and optimization, Substance Painter for advanced texturing and masking, Photoshop for creating custom graphics and masks, and Marmoset Toolbag for professional baking and rendering.
The course is structured to be beginner-friendly, even if you’re new to these specific tools. There’s an optional “Essentials Bootcamp” section covering basic Maya and Substance Painter tools if you need a refresher. We’ll then move through reference analysis, blocking out the asset, detailed modeling and high poly creation, optimizing for games with low poly and UVs, and finally, the core part: baking, texturing, and rendering. You’ll also get an optional section on custom export settings.
By the end, you’ll be able to manage complex assemblies like a pro, master the Photoshop-to-Substance workflow for unique details, and create professional, portfolio-ready game assets.
