Learn to express the emotions of a story through light and a camera
Telling a story and enhancing your emotions through lighting, colors and the camera is an art that, in order to master it, you need to understand the light and its language. David Curto is a cinematographer with 8 years of experience working with everything that has to do with image, light and camera to translate a script into images.

David has made films and spots advertising for brands such as Netflix, Avianca and Ford and music videos for artists such as David Bisbal and Juan Magán, among many others.

In this course you will learn basic notions about creativity and the direction of cinematographic photography. You will also see how you can convey the emotions of the characters in a script, through lighting and the camera in two narrative genres.

What will you learn in this online course?
You will meet David Curto, who will tell you about his love for film and photography, his time at the renowned ESCAC school in Barcelona (Spain), and the different projects in which he has been able to participate in Colombia, Spain and the United States. You will discover its main influences among paintings, films, favorite cinematographers and pictorial references.

You will start preproduction learning to face script reading. This time David has prepared two very different scenes to shoot in the same space. You will see some of their methods of inspiration and their creative process to prepare the narrative of the characters and work the emotions through light, colors and the camera. Then you will discover how is the process of locating or scouting and prepare the lighting and camera design for the shooting of both scenes.

Having read the script and done the scouting , you will start preparing the lighting and camera design for your scenes. First you will know the basic narrative aspects to choose a camera and the optics and, also, you will learn about the types of lighting sources and all their characteristics. Then you will choose some materials for filming.

David will teach you to illuminate, to position the camera and how to exhibit. You will arm, illuminate and record in a set designed for a romantic scene, and then you will repeat the process with a dramatic scene.

After filming, you will learn to colorize and export your piece in a video editing software, ideally DaVinci Resolve, and you will learn about details such as formats, aspects and most commonly used codecs.

At the end of the course you will have all the necessary knowledge to tell your own story using the lighting and the camera.

The course project consists of making two cinematographic scenes from a script and in the same space, emphasizing the visual narrative, being able to transmit different emotions in a single location through the camera and the light.
