American monument sculptor Edward J. Fraughton shares with you his knowledge of modeling and sculpture handed down to him from great American sculptors of the past in the tradition of Avaird Fairbanks and Frederic Remington. In this valuable series, Ed will show you his approach based on concepts of design, composition, and working mainly from imagination with subject matter ranging from the portrait to animal studies.
1. Sculpting a Portrait from Imagination
In this video lesson, world-famous master sculptor Ed Fraughton takes you on a unique in-depth tour of the art of portraiture. Ed breaks down the anatomical and constructional elements of the head and demonstrates from a variety of sources including photographs and masks in order to give you a thorough understanding of portrait sculpting approaches.
2. Sculpting a Life-Size Portrait
In this video lesson master sculptor Ed Fraughton sculpts a life-size portrait from the model using sulfur-based clay. You will learn how a seasoned master approaches the head including basic anatomical considerations and a logical approach. You will get a unique insight into Ed’s working habits and thought processes as he builds the sculpture from a simple armature into a more developed piece.
3. Animal Sculpting Demonstrations: Horse
