Use light to tell stories — build a cinematic exterior scene in Cinema 4D and Octane from layout to final grade.

This is a practical lighting course for 3D folks who can already model a scene but struggle to make it feel like something. You’ll go from flat renders to images with mood, story, and intent, using light as your main tool.

🎯 What you’ll learn

  • How different light types shape mood, depth, and focus in a 3D scene
  • Setting up and rendering in Cinema 4D with OctaneRender
  • Working with basic, colored, and creative lights for storytelling
  • Building a mood board and picking assets for a narrative concept
  • Composing an exterior scene and refining textures and layout
  • Adding effects and finishing the image in After Effects

✅ Requirements

  • Skills: Basic knowledge of a 3D program, understanding of viewport navigation and materials
  • Tools: Cinema 4D, OctaneRender, Adobe After Effects for final post-production
  • Hardware: Dedicated NVIDIA GPU for OctaneRender, 3-button mouse recommended

📝 Description

Lighting is what separates a decent render from one people remember. This course treats it like that — not as a technical checkbox, but as a way to direct the eye and set a tone. You’ll start with the basics of how light works on camera: intensity, color temperature, shadows, and contrast, then see how those choices change the read of a scene.

From there it’s all hands-on in Cinema 4D and OctaneRender. Tiago walks through his setup, breaks down basic lights, colored lights, and more experimental rigs, and shows when to use each. No endless sliders talk — it’s about what looks good and why, and how to iterate fast without killing your render times.

The second half is project work. You’ll put together a mood board, hunt down assets, block out an exterior layout, then refine textures and composition until the story lands. To close it out, you’ll push the render in After Effects with color tweaks and effects that add that last bit of punch. Short, direct, and very usable on your next job.

🧑‍🎓 Who this course is for

  • 3D artists and graphic designers with basic 3D skills who want stronger, more cinematic lighting
  • Anyone who wants to use light as a narrative tool, not just illumination, in personal or client work
