📝 Description
Everyone says art doesn’t pay. Oretsuu heard that too. She just kept drawing, kept testing what sells, and built a full-time job around her own anime-style characters. This class skips the theory fluff and shows you the exact steps she uses, from blank canvas to convention table.
First half is all about making your art hit harder. You’ll start with planning — what’s the story, what’s the feeling, where’s the light coming from? Then you get into human anatomy without the boring textbook stuff. Simple shapes for bodies, heads, hands, plus the small differences that make male vs. female reads work. Oretsuu is big on intention: every colour choice and shadow should push the emotion.
The second big shift is lighting and rendering. That’s where flat fanart turns into something people want to buy. You’ll practice values, edge control, light on the face, skin and eye rendering, and how to paint folds, frills, denim, metal — all the textures that make a character feel real. By the end of this block you’ll finish two polished illustrations that become your IP for everything after.
Then it gets practical. You’ll take those characters and make three types of character merchandise — think acrylic stands, keychains, prints and stickers. Oretsuu walks through chibi adaptation, file prep, finding manufacturers, mock-ups, pricing, and the mistakes that cost beginners money. Plus the unsexy but necessary part: online store setup, social marketing, and how conventions actually work.
If you want to stay a hobbyist, this isn’t for you. If you want to get paid for your style, this gives you a real starting point.

🧑🏫 About the Author
Oretsuu — or osu online — is an independent freelance illustrator based in Australia. She’s completely self-taught and started in digital art 11-12 years ago as a hobby. Years of trial, error, and perfectionist repainting led her to what she’s known for now: cinematic, emotional moments frozen in a single illustration.
Today she runs her own art business full-time, selling original merchandise and prints online and at conventions. Her portfolio mixes original characters and fanart with a strong focus on lighting, mood, and storytelling. In this class she shares both sides — how to paint work people feel something for, and how to package that feeling into products people buy.
🏁 Final Result

- Finished female character illustration — fully rendered, portfolio-ready file with full recording
