When one’s renders doesn’t look real, many artists start tweaking the lighting. I always argue that the lighting isn’t the issue. Even a scene lit with pure white environment color should look realistic. If it doesn’t, something else is wrong.
Here’s a few images I made to demonstrate some texture supply textures, lit with only white environment color, no fancy HDRI’s or lights.
