This is not another button-pushing Blender tutorial. You build a whole rock show from scratch — weird characters, stage, lights, animation — all with a loose hand-drawn look and 100% inside Blender.
🎯 What you’ll learn
- Model stylized characters from simple shapes – humans, creatures and props
- Sculpt with a cartoon mindset and keep forms readable on camera
- Do smart retopology and clean UVs for simple and complex models
- Paint stylized LookDev with texture painting and layered brushes
- Add Grease Pencil outlines and compositor glow for that 2D punch
- Rig humanoid and non-humanoid characters without the headache
- Use Geometry Nodes for hair physics and small details like earrings
- Animate poses with snappy, frame-by-frame energy
✅ Requirements
- Skills: Basic Blender navigation, familiarity with viewport and modifiers
- Tools: Blender (free), 3-button mouse, drawing tablet recommended for texture painting
- Hardware: Modern PC with dedicated GPU, 16GB RAM recommended for physics and rendering
📝 Description
This course is built around one idea: finish shots. You start with flat, silly ideas — a boot, a Pac-Man, a disco ball — and turn them into characters that can actually perform. No external apps, no jumping between packages. Just Blender from blockout to render.
First you model. You keep shapes simple, push proportions, sculpt where it matters. Then you fix the boring-but-important stuff: retopology and UV unwrapping. You get both manual and automatic approaches, so you can pick what fits the asset instead of forcing one workflow on everything.
Then it gets fun. LookDev is all about bold color and readable shapes. You paint directly on models, use layered brushes, add Grease Pencil lines for outline punch, and finish with glow and effects in the compositor. It is how you get that hand-drawn feel without leaving 3D.
Rigging and animation stay practical. The boot drummer uses simple rigs to fake complex motion. The girl singer goes deeper — full body rig, weight painting fixes, hair with Geometry Nodes, even physics on earrings. The Pac-Man guitarist shows how to rig non-humanoids fast and pose them for camera. You end by building the full stage, placing speakers, fans and lights, and prepping everything for animation.
🧑🎓 Who this course is for
- Blender beginners who want a full project, not scattered tips
- 2D artists and illustrators moving into stylized 3D
- Character artists who want simpler rigs and snappier animation
