If you spend half your day renaming assets, fixing imports, and clicking the same buttons in Unreal Engine 5, this course pays for itself fast. You learn to write Python tools that handle the repetitive stuff for you.
๐ฏ What you’ll learn
- Automate repetitive manual tasks with Python in Unreal Engine 5
- Create reusable editor tools for assets and level actors
- Build validators that check and fix assets and actors on the level
- Write commandlets for batch processing of assets
- Set up startup scripts that run on every editor launch with init_unreal.py
- Extend the UE interface with custom menus and menu entries
- Combine Scripted Asset Action Blueprints with Python scripts
โ Requirements
- Skills: Basic understanding of core Unreal Engine features, experience working with assets, Python programming and OOP principles
- Tools: Unreal Engine 5 installed, VS Code or PyCharm for scripting, Blender for export demo
- Hardware: Dedicated GPU for UE5, minimum 16GB RAM recommended
๐ Description
This is not theory. You write scripts from lesson one and run them directly in the Unreal Engine 5 editor. Setup, stub files for autocompletion, running from editor vs command line, startup scripts – all covered so your tools actually load where you need them.
Then you get into the daily pain points. Listing and filtering Content Browser assets, reading and setting editor properties, fixing texture compression settings, editing Material Instances, finding duplicated actors on the level. Small scripts, immediate payoff.
The middle part is where it gets serious for pipelines. You build batch importers for FBX and textures with Asset Import Task, hook up post-import actions with ImportSubsystem, clean up unused assets, and write validators for naming conventions, square textures, power-of-two sizes, and triangle counts. That is how you stop bad assets before they break a build.
Later you make it usable for other people. Custom menus, progress bars, undo support, automation testing, packing everything as a plugin, triggering Python from Scripted Action Blueprints, and driving UE remotely with the Remote Control API. Plus real debugging with debugpy and pydevd, because print statements only get you so far.
๐งโ๐ Who this course is for
- Unreal Engine users who want to stop doing manual cleanup and speed up their pipeline
- Technical Artists, Game Developers and Pipeline Engineers who need practical Python tools for UE5
- Tech artists with basic Python ideas who want a clear system for automating UE with Python
๐งโ๐ซ About the Author
Karol Kowalczyk is a senior developer with AAA industry experience, better known as Tech Art Corner. He works at the intersection of art and code – tools, pipelines, and automation that keep teams fast. He teaches from production problems, not docs, and shows the exact scripts he uses to validate assets, batch process imports, and extend the editor.
๐ Final Result
- A complete set of portfolio-ready Python automation tools for UE5: asset validators, batch importers, level cleanup scripts, custom menus, and a packaged plugin with Remote Control integration.
