In this class, David demonstrates how to use gouache as a masking agent to give your inked drawing a woodcut-like quality. This is a fun technique that will give you some very unique results with lots of character.

In this demonstration-based course by David Hohn, students will learn a fun technique that will not only inspire new levels of creativity, but will give them a new skill to add to their artistic arsenal.

This gouache-resist method enables students to be somewhat controlled and intentional with their initial rendering, but then loosen up in the latter stages yielding images similar to that of woodcut or Lino-block printmaking.

This course builds on basic drawing fundamentals, forces the student to think about color theory, and will also be pushing most students outside their typical methods – something we all need every once in a while
