1. How to Compose Shapes in Your Figure Drawing
In this first lesson of the Advanced Renaissance Figure Drawing course with Glenn Vilppu, Glenn will introduce what he refers to as the “subjective element.” This technique allows you to help guide the viewer’s eye through your drawing by using line, shape, tone, and other forms of transition. In this lesson, Glenn will be drawing the male figure with model Rajiv and using a Conte pencil.

2. Vine Charcoal Figure Drawing
In this second lesson of the Advanced Renaissance Figure Drawing course with Glenn Vilppu, Glenn will show you a method for drawing the figure using vine or willow charcoal. This traditional material allows you to move, blend, and change your drawing dramatically. You will learn how to sharpen and hold the charcoal as well as how to blend and control it.

3. Draw the Figure with Water-Soluble Pencil and Water Brush
In this third lesson of the Advanced Renaissance Figure Drawing course with Glenn Vilppu, Glenn will show you a method for drawing the figure using water-soluble colored pencils along with the water brush. You will learn a technique similar to watercolor where you draw lines and then create a wash to simply tone and create a beautiful drawing effect. Glenn will be drawing from images of Scott.

4. Draw the Figure with Fountain Pen and Ink Wash
No need to wait until Inktober to learn Glenn Vilppu’s gorgeous fountain pen and ink wash technique inspired by the artists of the Renaissance. In this fourth lesson in Glenn’s advanced Renaissance Figure Drawing course, you will learn how to draw the figure using a fine nib fountain pen and then work into that drawing with a wash using a water brush.

5. Drawing the Figure with Carpenter’s Pencil
Great drawing doesn’t have to require expensive materials. In this amazing lesson, master draftsman Glenn Vilppu teaches you how to use one of the most affordable drawing tools, the carpenter’s pencil (found at any hardware store) to create beautiful nuanced figure drawings. In this fifth part of Glenn’s advanced Renaissance Figure Drawing course, you will learn how to control your values and build up your drawing in steps.

6. How to Place Accents in Your Figure Drawing
You may have seen how professional artists use areas of dark and contrast called “accents” to move the viewer’s eye masterfully through their drawings. In this sixth lesson in Glenn’s advanced Renaissance Figure Drawing course, Glenn will show you the logic behind the accent and how to use it in your own work. Using Faber-Castell Polychromos colored pencil, Glenn will demonstrate a long-pose cross-hatched constructive figure drawing and how the accents can be applied.

7. Invent Your Own Lighting for Figure Drawing
In this much-requested lesson, Glenn Vilppu will teach you how to invent your own lighting from your figure drawings. As artists, we often need to modify our reference to suit our needs but few of us understand how to light the forms of the figure totally from imagination. In this seventh lesson in Glenn’s Advanced Renaissance Figure Drawing course, Glenn will use Faber-Castell Polychromos colored pencil and wash to draw figures from reference.

8. Draw the Figure with a ”Serrated“ Eraser With Glenn Vilppu
In this unique lesson, Glenn Vilppu will show you an amazing sculptural drawing technique that relies on charcoal tone, the chamois (rag), and a specially cut eraser than can be used to draw in light values. This is the eighth and final lesson in Glenn’s Advanced Renaissance Figure Drawing course and it’s fun and full of surprises. Glenn will draw from reference as well as from imagination.
