Anyone can place a character in a pose. Making that pose actually mean something is a different skill. This course breaks down how to build storytelling poses that read instantly and feel alive.
π― What you’ll learn
- Convey emotion and intent so viewers get what the character wants right away
- Build a strong Line of Action with S-curves and C-curves for rhythm and flow
- Design readable silhouettes that work even as a solid black shape
- Use asymmetry and natural weight shifts instead of stiff, mirrored poses
- Apply acting choices through pelvis, shoulders, and head tilt
β Requirements
- Skills: Basic understanding of posing or animation principles
- Tools: Any 3D animation package or 2D drawing setup for practice
- Hardware: Standard computer capable of running 3D or 2D software
π Description
Good posing is acting frozen in one frame. Nicolas walks you through how to decide what the character is thinking, then how to show it with the body. You will work with Line of Action, weight distribution, and clear staging to give your poses push and personality instead of just a correct anatomy setup.
You will also learn to check your work like a director. That means testing the silhouette readability, playing with camera angle, and fixing limb placement until the idea reads in two seconds. If it works as a black blob, it will work in full render.
The other big shift is getting rid of symmetry. Real people lean, twist, and collapse. You will practice natural weight shifts, offset pelvis and shoulders, and small head tilts that change the whole meaning of a pose. Simple tweaks, big difference in appeal.
