The best technique for coloring a cartoon or comic is watercolor. This is stated by Sergio Bleda, who with more than 29 years illustrating and coloring press strips, vignettes, illustrated albums and comics, in this course will teach you direct coloring techniques with watercolor for your illustrated projects.

In the same way that in his first course Inking techniques for comics and illustration , teaches the professional inking process, now it will explain step by step to use professional materials, techniques and tricks to color your projects with watercolor, developing your own style and achieving great control over the result final.

About this course
You will meet Sergio Bleda, his professional career in the comic world, the most representative illustrated projects and his main influences. In addition, it will explain why color is a very important narrative tool for a comic or a cartoon.

You will see the materials that you will use to start coloring, such as pill watercolor, brushes, paper, gouache , among others.

Afterwards, you will make a sketch to put into practice lighting and volume techniques. Once you have finished the exercises, you will create a color palette and start coloring your page.

From Sergio’s hand, you will start to work on the color of your project — if you don’t have it, you can work with a page from Sergio’s illustrated project, Jakob -. You will learn to apply several layers of watercolor and to give shadows and volumes to the characters, focusing more and more on the details until you finish it.

You will also learn how to add special effects with some tricks to give more life and dynamism to your illustration with a toothbrush, bleach and walnut.

Finally, you will scan your page with Sergio’s advice and you will see a series of pages already completed by himself and other illustrators.

At the end of this course, you will be able to color in watercolor the comic you want with your style.

What is this course’s project?
You will color a page from your own comic with watercolor, and if you don’t have one, Sergio will provide you with one to put into practice all the techniques.

Who is it for?
Anyone who wants to professionally color their own drawings —or those of other authors— in a professional way and wants to develop their own style.

What you need

You will not need previous knowledge but you really want to color with watercolor.

On the materials you should have brushes, watercolors, paper, a computer with Adobe Photoshop and a scanner.
