๐ Description
Most beginners can draw a decent character. The hard part is making that character feel like they are in the middle of something. This class tackles that head-on. You start with idea work and reference gathering, then move into shapes, lineweight, and brushes so your lines have weight and direction instead of looking flat.
From there, C breaks down the technical stack in a very practical way. Anatomy is reduced to simple forms you can actually remember โ male and female bases, different body types, heads from the skull out, hands from boxes and cylinders, plus a bonus on folds. Then color theory and lighting take over: complementary palettes, hard vs soft edges, bounced light, multiple sources, translucent materials like fabric backlight or underwater light. You apply it straight to a room you build yourself, so you see how light lives in a space.
The second half is where it clicks. You get vanishing-point perspective without the math-class pain โ 1-point, 2-point, 3-point, and fish-eye โ followed by composition and value grouping for foreground, midground, and background. The final storytelling block teaches you to think like a director: camera angle, candid framing, gesture, and micro-expressions. Small face shifts, prop placement, and lighting choices do the heavy lifting for mood. You finish by redrawing one of your own old pieces and talking honestly about self-doubt as a working artist.
