Learn basic techniques to create vector compositions with Adobe Illustrator
Working realistically with perspectives on a flat illustration is a challenge that even the best illustrators face. To help with this, isometric illustration involves a grid in the design process that simulates depth on paper.

In this course, you will learn how to create isometric vector illustrations in a vector drawing software with the help of Jorsh Peña, a Mexican illustrator specialized in this discipline, who will teach you the basic processes to create such an illustration from scratch in Adobe Illustrator. You will use a grid on which you will create a detailed vector city, paying special attention to the use of proportions, lights and shadows, and of course, to the elements’ perspective.

You will start the course getting to know Jorsh, his origins, and the beginnings of his career. He will tell you how he mixed his hobbies and influences to create his personal brand, how this came to differentiate his work, and how he has been able to work around the world with recognized brands while doing different personal projects.

You will learn to create a grid that will be the guide to create your illustration. Once finished, you will see the principles of perspective that will help you with the view of your illustration. Then, you will create your first figure, which will serve as an example to understand the principles of building on the grid. Then you’ll learn how to work with lights, shadows, and different color tones to create that depth and 3D effect in a flat illustration.

In the next unit you will begin to put into practice what you have learned, shaping the primary and secondary elements of your illustration. You will learn to create elements of different proportions, which will make up the base buildings of your city, in addition to working with different symmetrical and asymmetrical figures, reliefs, and details.

In the last unit, you will see the uses that you can give to the elements and the composition, as well as the different ways of exporting them according to their purpose, be it a printed or digital medium. As a bonus, you will see two tools that will facilitate the task of perspectives and lighting: 3D Rotation and Blend. You will discover some of their functionalities and how to apply them to the principles learned in this course.
