NK101 is the first course in a 6-part A-Z series by Compositing Academy, crafted to turn you into a professional compositor.

In this Nuke visual effects training course, you’ll be introduced to the core concepts of VFX compositing and learn to navigate the Nuke interface. By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills to composite a “Junior Digital Compositing” shot with confidence.

Throughout the course, you’ll work on a final project that combines all the techniques you’ve learned. The focus is primarily on the 2D aspects of compositing, teaching you how to:

  • Replace backgrounds
  • Color correct and blend foreground and background elements
  • Motion track the background to the foreground
  • Seamlessly bring it all together

As a bonus, you’ll learn to create an animated hologram effect from scratch, appearing in front of a character!

While there’s some theory to grasp before jumping into full compositing, persistence will pay off. By the end, you’ll have not only a valuable new skill set but also a polished shot to showcase your work!

A special thanks to the Blender Foundation and Xiph for providing the free green screen footage for this course.
