Create a portrait in Pixel Art with Photoshop using a previous photograph or drawing
Adrián de la Garza (better known as Galamot Shaku) -silustrator, pixel artist and video game developer- will teach you everything you need to know about Pixel Art, a digital art form where images are edited at the pixel level.
In this course, Galamot will review the different illustration techniques that exist in this discipline from its theoretical base and technical foundations to its application in different formats and supports.
What will you learn in this online course?
You will start knowing the work and influences of Galamot (from console graphics to more traditional illustrations).
Next, you will learn how to configure a file in Photoshop and the tools necessary to work with pixels in a simple way.
You will also learn to conceptualize objects in a 2D space and practice different shading techniques.
Once you have the foundations of Pixel Art clear, you will see how to create a sketch of a portrait from a photograph by scaling the composition and limiting the color palette to define lights and shadows. Next, you will create a general lighting map of the image.
Once you have the base of your portrait in Pixel Art, you will learn to add details such as brightness and textures, try different color palettes and, finally, export the final project.
As an extra, Galamot will take a tour of some useful formats to output a creation in Pixel Art in print media, GIFs, videogames or animation.
What is this course’s project?
You will make a portrait in Pixel Art from a photograph or a drawing of your own, applying all the lessons learned during the course.
Who is this online course for?
To illustrators interested in learning a new technique, video game developers, animators and anyone who wants to enter the world of the pixel.
