Make a photography series with a critical eye and personal style
Telling stories through photographs to publicize life forms, experiences and situations that are happening through your eyes, is an art that photographer Marcos Zegers practices from a young age. Becoming the bridge between stories and people for his documentary projects, his work has been exhibited in France, Britain, China and Spain; published in the New York Times and awarded in the POY (Picture of the Year) Latam 2019, in the category on the environment.

In this course you will develop a documentary photographic series, building your own story, which will tell a story visually. You will choose urban themes seeking to identify some that occur in your own city, and you will learn to count them through a photographic series with Marcos’ work methodology.

What will you learn in this online course?
You will meet Marcos, his career in architecture where he discovered his interest in the territory and its scale. You will see how his work was acquiring more strength and social sense, carrying out documentary projects in the Atacama desert or in Russia. You will discover its main references of photography, photographic series and the different perspectives with which they approach a subject.

You will learn the process of Marcos to create a documentary photographic series. First, you will analyze the importance of choosing a subject, then, you will do all the research to get to the “case” or the specific subject you will photograph and then, you will see how to address it.

Once you have a theme and several defined subjects, you will plan your first outing. You will learn some practical considerations and define whether to work a photographic series that tells through a story or through repetition.

You will discover how you must face different situations to obtain a genuine result, through practical examples.

You will select the images according to the advice of Marcos, to show your theme in the best way, and you will know the main criteria for retouching documentary photographs, reflecting your own identity.

At the end, you will have all the tools to develop your own photographic series with a critical look and author’s character.
