This tutorial offers a comprehensive guide to character design in a retro-Hannah Barbara style, which draws inspiration from iconic cartoons such as the Jetsons and Flinstones. With the guidance of guest instructor Mike Macnerland, who has a wealth of experience in the animation and illustration industry, you will learn how to create characters with sweeping curves, unique angles, and highly stylized, sometimes abstract forms.

The course begins with a 30-minute session on traditional sketching techniques, which can be done with paper and pencil or using a Wacom tablet. You will then trace over your designs in Adobe Illustrator, learning the basics of drawing with vector art in the process.

Throughout the tutorial, you will gain a deep understanding of the principles and techniques of retro-style character design, as well as how to apply these skills to your own artwork. Mike will also share some personal tips on developing a career as a professional artist.

The total course time is 4 hours, and the tutorial movies can be played using Quicktime or Real Player. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced artist, this course offers a unique opportunity to learn from an expert in the field and take your character design skills to the next level.
