1-Bit Godot Course by Heartbeast

Release date:2020, March 13

Author:Benjamin

Skill level:Beginner

Language:English

Exercise files:Yes

Good morning, afternoon, or evening! Wherever and whenever you are. My name is Benjamin and I teach people how to make indie games.

I’ve been creating videos and courses for over 5 years. I’m an established instructor on Udemy with 7 courses and nearly 50,000 students.

Maybe you already know me through discord or my YouTube channel, maybe we haven’t met at all yet. Either way, I’m excited to help you learn to make games in Godot!

Godot Engine is a free and open source game engine. It is designed to be easy to pick up but powerful and feature rich. It has both a dedicated 2D and 3D engine. I love the engine and I’m excited to teach you how to use it.

This course will give you a broad understanding of Godot Engine 3.1 as you make 5 mini games, but each video in the course will teach a single “bit” of information. These learning bits will be a pairing of 2 Godot concepts.

Pairing concepts is useful because it will help you remember the concepts better, and often those concepts are used together when making games. Here are a few examples of learning bits:

Signals and Buttons
Kinematic Bodies and Static Bodies
Collisions and Groups
Here is an image to show how Kinematic Bodies and Static Bodies relate to each other:

Who Is This Course For?

This course is not designed for everyone. There are some prerequisites for taking the course. The course is designed for beginners to Godot Engine but not people brand new to programming. Here are the programming basics you need to understand before taking this course:

Variables and Arrays
Control statements and Loops
Functions
Classes and Inheritance

  3. Godot recently had a major version update to Godot 4.0, so quite a few tutorials are out of date, including this one. The author of this particular material has updated their lessons to use the new version:

Would it be possible to get a copy of that here as well?
