Before & After: Building Contrast Curves with Resolve 12
If you missed it, Dan and I have previously done a 5-Part series on color correcting in DaVinci Resolve using the LAB colorspace. Working in LAB has been possible in Photoshop for many years. And in Resolve 11, Blackmagic gave us the ability to grade in LAB with moving images. In my follow-on series to Dan’s original LAB Insight, you join me on my journey learning to work in this Colorspace. And that journey wasn’t all unicorns and rainbows, it was often frustrating.
There was a HUGE annoyance working in LAB in Resolve 11
For many years, Resolve limited the types of curves we could draw—making working in LAB rather tedious and somewhat annoying. Curves that could be drawn in Photoshop with two quick moves, required us to place up to 5 points in Resolve. And there’s always the chance our curves would introduce color balance problems in the highlights or the shadows.
