Illustration is an art capable of telling all kinds of stories, from the most unimaginable to the most real. And this is precisely what Heber Villar is passionate about – digital illustrator and concept artist better known as Nimrod – motivating him to develop his talent to create illustrations that tell incredible stories for 6 years, specifically for publishers, advertising, video games, comics and the 3D animation movie: Ainbo.

In this course you will learn the Heber process to create a story from scratch and capture it in an illustration with Clip Studio Paint, combining the genres of science fiction and fantasy.

What will you learn in this online course?
The first thing you will do is meet Heber Villar, who will tell you about how he decided to devote himself self-taught to illustration. Then, you will see what has been a source of inspiration in his life and in his way of working.

Afterwards, you will learn about the Clip Studio Paint interface and the main tools it offers to work seamlessly with your illustration. You will see the characteristics of the genres of science fiction and fantasy, to find the way to merge both genres.

You will look for references and inspiration to define possible characters and narrative threads, and once you are clear about what you want to tell, you will have all the creative freedom to explore ideas and start making your illustration come true, creating the characters and the story.

Heber will comment on the importance of having a good composition in the illustration, so that you place the characters among other elements perfectly.

You will define the postures and attitude of your characters based on your story and the context in which they are. Next, you will add details to each of them and you will improve the perspective and depth of the scene.

You will learn to find harmony through the base color of the elements, so that the illustration transmits a mood on its own, and to define the color for each one of them within the scene.

With the illustration almost completed, you will establish the light and shadow of the illustration, and you will paint the elements that have not been delineated, such as backgrounds, clouds and smoke, among others. Once you have done all this, you will finish the course exporting your fantasy and science fiction illustration with Clip Studio Paint.

You will make a fantasy and science fiction illustration. The teacher will create a combat scene, but you can do what you like best.

Requirements and materials
Basic knowledge of drawing, especially of human figure and perspective, and it is essential to have a lot of imagination. On the materials, you will need a computer with Clip Studio Paint installed and a graphic tablet.
