Release date:2016, November

Author:Tom Newbury

Skill level:Beginner

Language:English

Exercise files:Yes

Recently, I set out to learn Xgen for Maya because I wanted to create realistic hair for my character. However, I noticed a lack of high-quality tutorials that offered a comprehensive process for achieving this. So, after absorbing what I could from the available resources and teaching myself the rest, I decided to share what I’ve learned with others.

In this tutorial, you’ll have access to over 4 hours of content where I walk you through my entire process of generating hair without relying on scripts or expressions. I cover everything from creating scalp geometry to grow hair from, to applying and grooming hair for different regions of the head and face, including:

  • Head
  • Eyebrows
  • Eyelashes
  • Beard
  • Peach Fuzz

In the final chapter, I demonstrate how to use Arnold to create realistic hair shaders and render them for the desired result.
