Adolfo Navarro -designer of product and photographer- is passionate about this material and with his disruptive and functional approach to leather goods has been recognized with multiple awards through his brand of leather products, Lo Esencial.

In this course you will learn the concepts and basic techniques of leather design to create a simple and functional object, letting your creativity and experimentation capacity take the reins and give prominence to the material with a perspective of minimalist design.

What will you learn in this online course?
You will start the course knowing the work of Adolfo Navarro, his experience in product design, and more in detail the work he does as Creative Director of the brand Lo Esencial.

Adolfo will give you an introduction to the world of leather goods and how the techniques he will teach you in this course distance from the traditional.

Next, you will learn the basics about the material you will use: leather; knowing its properties, the different types and finishes that exist, in addition to the tools, contemporary techniques and considerations to work it in a congruent way.

Finally, you will see how you can design a functional object in the simplest possible way. Together with Adolfo, you will learn basic techniques for working with leather and will practice different types of joints and cuts, to bring your idea to reality.

What is this course’s project?
As a final project, you will create a completely functional object in a single piece of genuine leather, without seams, in which you will apply the different techniques and examples analyzed during the course.

Requirements and materials
To take this course you do not need previous knowledge, just want to experiment and work with such incredible material as leather. As a great plus, but not indispensable, it would be to know how to use some 2D drawing software for the digital elaboration of the templates.

As for materials, you will need a piece of approximately 30×30 cms. Genuine leather, cutting board, some cutting tools and complementary hardware that Adolfo will explain how to acquire.
