Art crit. The very words strike fear in hearts of art students everywhere. But you can’t truly grow as an artist unless you learn how to take the dreaded crit in stride. As the writer Norman Vincent Peale once said, “The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.”

This critique was originally held in October 2016, with special guest Jaime Zollars. Jaime, along with pro illustrators Lee White and Will Terry, critiqued the personal work of 10 SVS students. Each student submitted one illustration for critique. This is the recorded version of that class.

Follow along as Jaime, Lee and Will deconstruct each image and give feedback on how to improve the work, both visually and conceptually (don’t worry, none of them have fangs). Even though these are critiques of other people’s work, you can still learn quite a lot!
